We use state of the art People Flow Simulation software in order to ensure that our clients have complete confidence in our final design solution. We can translate any design into a working 3D animation which can output key data in the form or bar charts, graphs etc.
In the 20 years that we have been designing facilities for our customers, the need for this type of software has never really been a factor. This is still the case now as the vast amount of experience we have in-house means that all of our design solutions are not only fit for purpose but also work well operationally as well as look amazing!
However, what we have found is that when designing large catering facilities such as schools and universities or even large staff facilities is that designing something that looks good spatially on plan is one thing but actually ensuring that the facility will be able to cope with large quantities of people coming through the area in a short period of time is another. Sometimes even an inefficient design is made to work by the staff operating it but this has an effect on staff numbers and ultimately operational costs. It is impossible to design a facility that works efficiently 100% of the time as sadly in most cases there are restrictions on either space or budget. There are also inconsistencies in human behaviour which can also play a part.
By using our people flow simulation software, we can input key information such as arrival rates, service times, numbers of people, even average eating times and walking speeds! By doing this we can clearly demonstrate not only the efficiency of a design but also the potential weak points too. Ensuring that a design deals with peaks as well as troughs is crucial. This way we can ensure that queuing times are balanced against seating capacity…..
