Hartpury University and College is a 360-hectare campus that is located just outside of Gloucester. Its primary focus is to provide specialist education in the areas of animal husbandry, agriculture, equine care, sports, and veterinary nursing.

Space Group worked closely alongside Roberts Limbrick Architects on this exciting new build project, having been appointed by Vitruvius Management Systems.

The Design Consultancy Division engaged in the design of a brand-new production facility to cater for a new central dining area to serve the college and university students. Our team worked through RIBA stages 2-4, from concept development through to providing a full technical drawing pack for the construction phase.

Space Group’s involvement in the project continued beyond the consultancy stages, as post tender we were appointed directly by Hartpury to deliver the project. Working alongside Barnwood Construction as the main contractor, we supplied and installed kitchens on both the ground and first floors, as well as serveries, a grab and go shop and coffee bar.

The Specialist Manufacturing division at Space played a central role in the manufacture and installation of the bespoke counters, the grab and go retail area, and all the stainless-steel fabrication required for the kitchens.

Careful coordination with the main contractor took place to ensure that all the necessary services were included in the build.

The equipment specified in the design was carefully considered to provide both operational and environmental benefits. For example, the extraction canopy included a UV system which eliminates both odours and grease, reducing the risk of fire, unpleasant smells, and gases in addition to reducing the time required to clean the unit.

A specialist dewatering system, induction hobs, combination ovens and a dishwasher with an inbuilt heat recovery system, were included for their ability to reduce food waste and minimise energy usage.

At the end of a five-week installation programme, Space Group were able to hand over a bright new vibrant design in a modern space that the students can use and enjoy for many years to come.
