Pittville School is vibrant comprehensive school in the heart of Cheltenham, providing secondary education to 600 youngsters aged 11-18.
During Summer 2017 work was undertaken to create a brand new food and socialising area for students to use and as part of this, Space Group were brought in to design and build a solo catering pod serving hot and cold snacks externally near to the newly constructed timber and Perspex canopy in the Quad.
To create minimum disruption to the other external works taking place as part of the development, the catering unit was constructed off site in timber panels which were then brought to school and erected on site. Here a waterproof membrane was added to the top and UPVC windows and doors were added, to protect the pod (and staff!) from the elements. The building was then clad in timber larch planks and a roller shutter fitted.
It was important that the pod had the relevant features to provide a clean and safe environment for serving food. Hygienic cladding was added to the walls and a non-slip vinyl floor was installed to prevent accidents.
Finally, water and waste was brought through from the main building to complete the development of a popular, hardy and environmentally-friendly addition to the catering services at the school.
